About Seed to Sprout and Kristin Berrier, Owner & Principal

Seed to Sprout was born out of the idea that not everyone wants, needs, or can afford full-time, experienced marketing staff.

For many small businesses, nonprofits and associations, even if you do look to hire, your budget won’t support much more than an entry level staffer. But, your marketing challenges may not be easily solved by a kid fresh out of college with a newly-minted marketing degree. You need an experienced person to help you with strategy, or communications, or development, or content, or whatever your marketing need may be.

This is where Seed to Sprout comes in. Seed to Sprout is a marketing consultancy designed to help small businesses and nonprofits fill the gaps in their marketing efforts with strategic planning, marketing, and fundraising and development support.

I’m a marketing consultant and utility player, ready to partner with you to achieve success and reach your marketing goals, whether you need help with a single project or want to hire a part-time, long-term contractor.

My background includes more than 20 years in marketing roles (up to Director level), with stints with nonprofit orgs, an internet start-up, and corporations, including a Fortune 50 firm (I even took a detour when my children were small to teach preschool which just might have been the toughest job I’ve ever had).

My work at Seed to Sprout has included supporting nonprofits, professional and trade associations, entrepreneurial support organizations, and more.

Unusually for a marketing geek, I’ve worked in positions focused on both the creative and operational sides of marketing. Marketing strategy and analysis – check. Brand development and creative/agency management – yup. Public relations plus internal and external communications – all yes. Fundraising and development…sure thing. Social media management, content development, and copywriting? Yes, yes, and yes! I know a lot about some, and some about others, but enough to help you with all.

What does that mean for you?

I’ve got the experience to work in any sized organization, and I bring big company best practices, knowledge of the unique world of nonprofits, and the agility of a start up to you. I’ve got the knowledge to work with you in virtually any area of marketing, and if you need more than I can give, I’ve got a network of experts that can back me up. I can be your marketing guru on retainer or help you with a single project.

My passion is helping small organizations tap into the power of marketing and take your ideas from Seed to Sprout.

Kristin stepped into the marketing role at VRLTA after years with no dedicated staff, and she helped the Association get back up to speed on communications, two large events, new websites, and many other marketing needs. During the pandemic, she helped us pivot and adapt to meet the rapidly-changing health, legal, and regulatory landscape facing the industry, and the increased and improved communications made a huge difference to our members. Her work helped the Association secure grant funding and state support which will have long-term benefits for hospitality and tourism. Kristin’s work-on-retainer filled the gap for more than two years until we decided to hire a full-time employee, and she continues to work with us on select projects.
